Next meeting Tuesday, August 8th, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. at

Our meeting this month will be a very special one and one that will be especially fun.  It will be held at Swan Island
Dahlias. The meeting will be done in two parts:
4pm to 6PM for the Trial Garden Judging and Flower Arranging Seminar.
6:30PM till dark, for the regular meeting and the Swan Island presentation.

Flower Arranging: Gordon Jackman will make a presentation on how to arrange dahlias. He will be available to do
basket, show arrangements, wedding arrangements or whatever the audience wants to do. We will have materials
there and hope to have the participants prepare their own creations. If they want to take them home they need to bring
their own materials (basket, vase or container). Flowers will be provided by Swan Island.

Judging Seedlings: We will also be judging the trial garden entries and anyone can be accompany a judge and help
judge the entries. This will be an interesting exercise for anybody who grows seedlings and wants to know how they
are evaluated.

Nick Gitts, Jr. will make a presentation on Swan Island Dahlias and answer questions on anything dahlia related.

Soft Drinks and bottled water will be provided by the Dahlia Society. No food will be served so each participant needs
bring whatever food items they require. There are numerous picnic tables and some have umbrellas. We will have our
PDS Tent set up also.

Please bring some staged entries.  There will be a team of judges who will judge the entries and then explain to those
in attendance “why” the dahlias were judged and explain the “ins and outs” of proper entry techniques.  This will be an
excellent opportunity for you new members to learn how to enter dahlias into a standard dahlia show.

WHO:  Everyone!  Even if you’ve never exhibited
before, give it a try.  Our novice class is very
lenient and designed to get you interested in
exhibiting.  There will be many seasoned exhibitors
there who will be happy to help you get your dahlia
“staged” so it is displayed at it’s best.

WHERE:  The Clackamas County Fairgrounds in
Canby, OR, off old Hwy 99E in the administration
building.  It is easy to find and we will have
signboards out directing you to the Show.

WHEN:  On Labor Day weekend 2006, September
2nd & 3rd.  Entries may be made between 6 p.m.
and 9:00 p.m. on Friday night, September 2nd and
on September 3rd between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.
Judging of the show starts promptly at 9:30 a.m. so
plan to have your entries in and staged by no later
than 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

SET-UP:  Please note that we have access to the
Administration Bldg. on Thursday, September 1st.
Those who can volunteer to help setup the Show,
please plan to be at the Administration Building in
Canby at 4:00 p.m.
